Un-jammable quantum tech takes flight to boost UKs resilience
The UK has successfully tested a groundbreaking quantum navigation system, capable of operating without GPS, on a commercial flight, a development supported by UKRI funding. This system, developed by Infleqtion in collaboration with aerospace giants BAE Systems and QinetiQ, represents a significant advancement in navigation technology with potential applications in defense and civilian sectors. The test, conducted at Ministry of Defence Boscombe Down, showcased the resilience of quantum PNT systems against threats like GPS jamming and spoofing, crucial for maintaining the integrity of critical transport and infrastructure. The technology includes novel quantum sensors and atomic clocks that enhance timing and navigation accuracy independent of satellite signals. This achievement aligns with the UKs commitment to leading in quantum technologies and underscores the nations strategic initiatives to safeguard its infrastructure from emerging threats.
